Ansgar Noeth is an artist working on the borderline of sculpture and photography.
Printed directly behind glass in a complex and highly durable printing process,
his sometimes fragile, sometimes strongly colored and quite confronting works
appeal through their transparent yet surprisingly solid look. They are presented
standing freely in heavy bases or mounted so they appear to be hovering in front
of the wall. Their look is completely unique yet hauntingly familiar as it recalls
the colorful explosions of pop-art and majestic appearance of church windows
alike.

Quite fittingly, Noeth quotes Christian mythology in the majority of his - often
serial - works. We are predominantly raised with Christian values in the Western
hemisphere, he says, which lend these images their very own context of meaning,
a set of almost inexplicable symbolic references. The artist, who prefers not
to interpret his own work, enjoys the contrast between the transparent and fragile
material of his prints and the threatening and sometimes intimidating depths
of their imagery.
